Which ipad for school? What do you all mean?

I wanted to wish my parents an Ipad for my birthday, which I want to use for school. I'm in 8th grade and I've already told the teacher about the ipad. He said that it is realistic to work with the ipad in school, but he just has to clarify it. Now the question for you. I want to buy an Ipad Pro 2018 model or an Ipad air 4th generation because the others are simply too expensive. Should I buy the Ipad Pro 12.9 inches or is 11 inches enough, what do you think? Do you have experiences yourself? And is 64 GB enough for you? On my mobile phone I have 128 of the 80GB occupied, but I also have a lot of unnecessary stuff on it. I mainly want to work with the Ipad for school and now and then watch YouTube or Netflix more but probably not.

In

Ipad Air is easily enough for school πŸ‘ but buy it with at least 64 gb, we also have some (the whole school) and 32 gb are really not enough

Ch

You don't need an Air or a Pro for your purposes. The simplest iPad costs around 370 euro, is a little more than 10 inches, and has 32GB of storage. Completely sufficient if you don't want to save a lot of videos with it.

Streaming Netflix and YT videos don't need storage.

Ch

And 32 GB are really not enough

For school? Ridiculous.

He

Yes, but the problem is that I need 120 Hz and the air doesn't have that. I also want to edit images and cut videos with it, so it makes more sense for me per model. And 64 GB is too little for me, but then 256 is too much and the 256 GB version costs almost as much as the pro, so there's no getting around it for me

Jo

You don't need a high-end device for school. I have an Asus notebook that costs 270 euro

He

But I need 128 GB of memory because I still cut videos and want to do image processing with it πŸ˜‚

Ch

Well, that wasn't in the question. It said: "I mainly want to work with the Ipad for school and now and then watch YouTube or Netflix". And there's no need for a storage giant.

In

I said yes 64 is the minumun so it works. And no one needs 120 Hz but if you can buy the Pro then buy it

He

I forgot to write in

He

A notebook is something else again, I want to cut videos with it, etc.

He

What 120 Hz does nobody need? Just because you can't see how big the difference is from 60 to 120 Hz?

Jo

You can do that with a notebook. You don't need an iPad for school, everything also costs money, maybe even for toiling yourself?

In

Ka already Xd in my school

In

But have a 144 hz monitor notice the difference but you don't need it for school matters

He

I work myself and pay half but ok

He

It is very noticeable with the Apple pencil

In

Yes, but you don't need itπŸ˜‚

Jo

You didn't mention that and I don't believe you.

He

Yes, you're right, but it's nice to have πŸ˜‚ and I think it's necessary πŸ€·β™‚οΈ

He

You don't have to believe me, but I don't need to "credible" it to you: D

And if you have no idea then please don't go into it

He

I can also say that I mustn't believe that you (you) are educators zu having a job is completely normal

Jo

I'm not (yet) an educator either.

He

Oh oops Then I wish you every success in your training.

Jo

Many Thanks.

A lot is still missing: A lot of knowledge!
So first of all, when you ask a question, try to ask it as concrete and detailed as possible.

Now to the question:
You won't get around the 12.9 "for your needs and above all you can get rid of the 64GB version.

Video editing / grading is almost only possible accurately with LumaFusion, maybe with Premiere Rush, but then it stops. The rest is more so "low low level". Video files are large, the raw clips as well as the finished film / clip. Especially when working with LumaFusion and 4K clips. The memory limit of the iPad is often reached with a 3-6 minute video because the app copies every clip. An 8GB 4K GoPro recording of around 7 minutes then takes up 16GB of space. But now you have 15 of them. 15x16 makes 240GB in the end. From this you cut your 6 minute video in the highest export quality and you have another 6GB on the disk. Makes 246GB, 10GB left for the system and apps as well as school supplies. And you just cut a video.

If the image processing is added here, you need at least 512GB, the 1TB version would be more useful! Otherwise you have to get a very fast SSD (Samsung T5 / T7) from which you can then drag your clips onto the iPad! With a 64GB iPad Pro, you can expect a lot of data to move back and forth. Or you can invest in the 1TB version.

Keyword image editing: Except for Adobe Lightroom, there isn't much with correct editing! Snapseed can also be used on the mobile phone and Adobe Photoshop for iPad has a very low usage factor! If you are used to Adobe PS from PC / Mac, be prepared to be disappointed. The only alternative is Affinity Photo!

So all in all, the 12.9 "is the best choice for your needs. But now comes the catch! The 12.9" is not so ideal for school and Co. It is very large, very unwieldy. You also have a lot of space for notes and other things thanks to the 12.9 "but it is not that flexible. You don't spend 5 minutes lying in bed and holding it in your hand to study! You basically always have to lie down / be propped up.

In a nutshell: You have to decide, either the device is only for school, then you can save yourself money and 64GB is easily enough, or you want the full program! Then you have to pay for the full program! And you should also use it with the professional apps, otherwise it is nothing more than an expensive children's toy.

Thanks for the detailed answer.

I used an iPad (iPad 7th generation) myself at school, I will now also use it for my studies and I can tell you: a normal iPad will do just fine. However, the Apple Pencil is absolutely necessary, because in math or chemistry, for example, you often have to draw things like numbers or structural formulas. I would also buy a Bluetooth keyboard because it gives you a much better typing experience than typing around on the display (you also see more). The normal iPad can scan the basic things like word processing, documents or work on presentations without any problems. Sure, things like USB-C, a 120hz display or support for the Apple Pencil 2nd gen are cool, but pretty unnecessary in school. However, I would rather use the iPad 8th gen instead of the 7th gen, simply because the processor is a lot more powerful. If you have any questions, you can just comment below
