Do you still use DVDs?

Nowadays everyone uses netflix, amazon prime etc

Bl

DVDs and CDs no longer, BluRays do

So

Classics that are not streamed, or that I definitely want to have in my media library, I buy on BR or, since most of them don't even exist on BR, on DVD.

And then they land on my own server where they even become a stream

Za

Anything I want to watch that Netflix doesn't have and that I'm sure I'll like, I buy on DVD because I don't like to watch illegally.

Co

Almost exclusively. Just bought some used DVDs for a bargain. You can always get it somewhere cheap, no matter what film you are looking for: -D

My problem with the streaming services: If I had 24/7 free access to an incredible amount of films and series, I would just feel like watching ;-D
So I rarely watch a selected film, but also with friends, and it remains something special.

However, at the latest when the Lord of the Rings series starts from Amazon and I like the first episodes (#probeabo), yes, at the latest then I will probably also have a subscription ;-D

Yes, I'm one of the few who can't do anything with Netflix and Co. So I could… But I don't want to. I have a remarkable collection of Blu Rays for the first time.

But I also have a Blu Ray recorder, if I'm interested in something, I put it on the hard drive and then transfer it to a blank Blu-Ray disc. I don't have that much coal, I like every film that I like like to buy.

This is a good idea with the server.

Did you set it up via a public cloud?

Es

This is a practical strategy if you have a Blu-ray recorder.

So

No. A BananaPi and a couple of USB hard drives. A total of 6 TB of storage space, of which 2 as backup (does not have to back up everything that I still have as a physical data carrier at home).

The server is a real workhorse. Has been going through for years, music, emails, all documents, user accounts, all of our photos, print server and a MiniDLNA server also run on it. He doesn't even wake up properly. It does not consume a whole watt in standby.

In the past, a media PC based on Atom-Ion ran on my TV to be able to call up the content on the big (with Kodi). In the meantime, I have a FireTV stick and since the Kodi can also run, the media PC is useless Around the basement.

The BananaPi hangs behind a cupboard… Out of sight. Because you practically never have to do anything with it.

Yes, I used to have a DVD recorder, also with a hard drive, which is fun, also because you can design your own covers, but now some 100 discs have accumulated over the years, and I occasionally exchange one, because then I buy a Blu Ray I bought, but that's more of an exception. When I shoot a TV film (and there are also very good films) … I don't really need to buy it.
