Are cinemas slowly dying out?

There's Netflix, Disney plus etc. So why spend tons of money in the cinema?

Do you have a huge screen at home?

If no, then maybe that's why you go to the cinema.

If so, then I see no reason to go to the cinema.

Of course, I don't know how this will develop in the future, but I hope that cinemas will be around for a long time to come. The feeling is just its own. Our UCI, for example, is great. Huge halls, leather armchairs, enough legroom, popcorn, nachos, etc. Simply cool, even with friends.

Hmm, normally I would have said that cinema had to reinvent itself from time to time in order to remain attractive. First came TV, then color TV, then video… And big film palaces became small box-type cinemas!

Then came the large multiplex cinemas, DolbySurround, great visibility, comfortable armchairs… But the TV manufacturers etc. Followed suit. The 3D trend could not hold up there…

Flebbe, who founded the CinemaxX chain 30 years ago, has meanwhile made something different out of the 1st CinemaxX in Hanover… Astor, with service at the seat, armchairs with a table where you can put your feet up, etc.

However, as in other areas, Corona will kill some poorly running cinemas!

There are certainly many who still like to go to the cinema, and there will always be, because it is different from sitting at home in front of the TV or laptop.

I, however, have graduated from cinema. The prices were way too high before Corona and now they are likely to get even higher. And I don't see paying 10 euro for a normal (not a 3D) ticket and then spending at least 5-10 euro for snacks, because e.g. The chips that I buy for max. Get 2 euro in any store, cost around 4 euro in the cinema and the bag then consists of more than half of air. I don't even have to start with drinks & co.

And that's just too expensive for me, just seeing a movie that I can buy on DVD a few months later or watch on Netflix. The film has to be very good, that I'm willing to pay so much and that is only rarely the case because for months - even before Corona - there has only been scrap in the cinema.

I enjoy sitting on the couch with my favorite snacks and watching DVDs or Netflix more. Comes much cheaper to me.

The same question could theoretically be asked in relation to live concerts. After all, there are various live videos on YouTube. You could save your money there. But you don't, because being at a concert live is totally different from watching videos of it on YouTube.

It is similar with the cinema. Even going to the cinema by yourself is an event. You buy the tickets, get something to eat and drink and then sit comfortably in the hall. Everything is dark, you have a huge screen and great sound. You just don't get something like that in your own living room.

You are then prepared to spend a little more money on it.
