Various factors play a role here. First, consider whether you want a large or small iPad. Of course it's also a question of weight and size. If you want to use it for school, you always have to carry it back and forth.
Then you would have to think about how much memory you need. Overall, I would rather recommend the newer models (i.e. Those that work with Apple Pencil 2)
So I have the sixth generation iPad with the first Apple Pencil and get along really well. However, some do not like the distance between the display and glass on my iPad. But it is very cheap for an Apple product and the Apple Pencil is also cheaper.
I have the iPad '19 model so the normal size with Apple Pencil (1st gen) and 32 GB of memory. It is perfect for school / university to take notes and probably for drawing too. I can recommend you with a clear conscience. For iPad and Pencil I have now paid 400 euro together and I think that's a fair price.
