Huhu, I would like to buy the new MacBook Air 2020 with the M1 chip next month and have already made plans, but I don't know how much GB I will need for the Macbook and am already a bit worried.
i would surf the internet, watch netflix and use it to play games. Later I would also use it for school / high school and university.

I would definitely go for the 16gb and 512gb hard drive model, unless you can get the 256gb model for a really good price

Here with 256GB it would be on offer

I also do a lot for school and have a lot of documents (Excel, Word, PDFs) and lots of photos and music on them and my 256 GB are almost full. Nowadays I would rather go to 512GB.

No

256 were already too few for a piece of work equipment tens of years ago. At least 512, preferably more.

I would definitely recommend the large one with 512 GB. Body too much read too little. You can't upgrade anymore.

I've had it myself for two days 🙌🏽
I have the 256 GB variant with 8 GB RAM, so the cheapest that is possible.

And I use it to cut and produce 4K videos, retouching with Photoshop and creating texts with Pages and presentations with Keynote.

I can tell you: 256GB is enough thick!

School: All the files that you will create in the school as a whole are hardly worth mentioning. I currently have 3 years of vocational school plus company documents, presentations and videos of online lessons on my Mac and only have 5.8 GB.

Streaming: self-explanatory! None of the data is on the MacBook. So nothing takes up space. Unless you download something from Netflix to watch offline. Spotify and Co. The same thing, is not directly on the computer.

Gaming: You just have to look, it's not exactly a gaming machine, but it's enough for something Fortnite or Minecraft.

Surfing: Doesn't cost you any memory either!

All the programs and applications take up almost no space. I have installed various programs:

DaVinci Resolve 17.1
Photoshop
Lightroom
Blender
Brackets
Notion
CleanMyMac

there are still some 4K video files on the main drive, as well as loads of photos. All in all, I'm only busy 30% with all of this.

And remember, should it ever run out, you can easily get external hard drives! You can get a good SSD like a 1TB Samsung T5 cheaper than going straight to Apple.

Don't give them any money!
