Why did Akira (in Devilman Crybaby) help people?

I recently watched Devilman Crybaby on Netflix and have a question. Why did Akira fight for people? So at the beginning I could understand it, because he was maybe attached to Miki and also had a few other people who were dear to him and whom he wanted to protect. In the end, however, almost everyone he loved was death, and in most cases because of the people who completely freaked out and killed each other. Why did he end up fighting Ryo anyway and not joining him with the other Devilmans?

I think because Akira is half human. In my opinion, he did the right thing. But somehow it is also clear that he is on the side of the people. Alone because of conscience and because he was born as a human being.

Thanks for the answer. That could well be possible. I just thought that Akira had to be pretty exhausted and very angry with people because people killed his loved ones. He also said in episode 9, when he saw how the people in front of his burning house had impaled the body parts of his friends, something like the real demons these people are or something like that.
