Netflix surround sound?

When I start netflix with dolby digital it says 5.1 but when I start netflix with dolby atmos it says atmos. Why is that? What is the difference between the systems

Tu

Atmos needs a different decoder and a different speaker setup.

Nu

5.1 is right + left + middle front and right + left rear and 1 subwoofer.

Athmos can for example be 5.1.2 or 5.1.4 etc.

Athmos in the cinema, for example, consists of several loudspeakers on the ceiling and is basically real surround sound.

And 5.1 isn't a real surround sound?

ar

With 5.1 you have 5 speakers around you and a subwoofer that is responsible for the very low frequencies.

Dolby Atmos is a 3D sound format. Depending on the expansion variant and amplifier, you can control several handful of speakers. In the home theater, variants with 5, 7 or 9 speakers at ear level and 2, 4 or 6 speakers in front of, above or behind you on the ceiling are common. To hear Dolby Atmos you need at least one soundbar that can do this, but better an AV receiver to which 7 or more speakers can be connected.

But I don't know what you mean by "start with Dolby Atmos". The sound formats can be selected in the sound menu during playback. However, the majority of the films are only available with English Dolby Atmos. German is usually only 5.1.

That is also surround, only Athmos is more surround. Athmos fills you with sound in three-dimensional space.
