Buy MacBook Air 2017?

Does it make sense now to buy the 2017 MacBook Air for a study (only needed for normal office applications and Netflix) or do you think that it will not be supported by Apple in 1-2 years?

Bitter only helpful answers

He

The thing gets even in 6 years still updates

Do not you worry about that

Wa

Although there's a lot of money, which one has to take in hand, but the 2017er will be supported much longer. You do not have to worry about that.

Ev

So that will be supported in another year or two by Apple.

but for your application is actually a cheaper Windows laptop.

I do not want to talk you out of the MacBook, but I use my MacBook Pro for Final Cut and Image Editing. By the way, some office and stuff, but mainly just video and photo editing. And for you it does - in my opinion - also a simple Windows computer with Windows 10

Er

Otherwise, I only have Apple products (IPad, Iphone, Watch) and therefore thought it would not be too bad to use the laptop. I think that's the way to go

Br

I would not be sure. If the rumors are correct and Apple goes from Intel / x86 to ARM, it would probably be that there will be no updates soon.

He

Yes, but that will only be another series, the normal there will be trzdm still

Br

In my opinion, it makes sense to be at home in the Apple universe anyway. And I'm not Applefan, but for less-advanced users, MacOS is also the better system.

Therefore I can't agree with the answerer here.

Br

I would not be so sure, because ARM is much more efficient and therefore, if you neglect software compatibility, makes a lot of sense. Therefore, I see the chances big that Apple completely leaves x86. And a bisl dispute with Intel they had apparently synonymous.

He

The ARM chips but only have a 15 watt tdp, the Intel chips but 65 watts I hardly believe the normal models go completely

The ARm chips are likely to be installed in the passive cooled standard Mac Book, but the faster Air and Pro models will continue to exist

Br

You ARM stands for Advanced Risc Machines and this architecture called Risc is already used in CPUs with 260Kernen +. I think you greatly underestimate the scalability of Risc.

He

I'm aware, but as long as the applications are not optimized on it will be interesting only for low budget devices

Br

That an iPad Pro for 1300 euro is a low budget device, but you say the owners.

And exactly the approach that they trim the iPads and the software around it on the Produltiveinsatz speaks for the coming change. Because there's Photoshop, for example Even and FinalCut and Co will follow.

He

The ipad pro of the current gene is available but already from 700 euro

Yes, that's right things are going really well, just a replacement for a real MacBook they are not trzdm

Br

To work productively, ie image editing, you need the big thing with a little memory. And there we're at the 1300 euro I mentioned.

He

But yes you can connect so super external plates, or use iCloud

Br

I hope you have cleaned your keyboard after you typed the bad word with C. Clouds, pfuidaibel! 8th)

Ev

Yes, well, then you are like me. Then an apple folding computer of course makes sense, if everything else is fruit products.

Therefore, the small air is enough.
