Is a 256 GB Macbook enough?

Re

I would like to buy a Macbook air 2020 with the M1 chip. However, I do not know whether 256 GB is enough. It's supposed to be for school and watch Netflix every now and then. Play a little Among us and actually not more… Lg.

Su

Even 128GB would be enough.

an

256GB is very little, but that should be enough for your requirements.

Bu

For the first time: You don't need to buy a Macbook for these requirements.

And yeah, if you actually only do these activities, then that's a long 256 GB. But from personal experience, a lot of data accumulates over time. Pictures, music, downloads etc… The 256 GB fill up extremely quickly.

The variant with more memory is so much more expensive that I would prefer to buy an external SSD instead.

Ka

It should be enough, although I like to use the "more memory is better than less memory" procedure. Among us is only available for iOS / iPadOS, so it could be difficult to play this on the mac…

PS: And no, you can't simply install every iOS / iPadOS app on the M1 mac, but only those that have been adapted and approved for this by the manufacturer. And sideloading no longer works either.

Ju

But there's no choice.

Su

I know 256GB is a minimum, but that would be enough for what he intends to do.

The new M1 chip enables the use of iOS apps.
Can be downloaded directly from the App Store.

Ka

If (and only if) the developer has planned and explicitly allowed this for the app. Sideloading has not been possible since January.

Re

Since I usually only choose Apple products for the Macbook, everything is connected to everything.

an

That's right, but doesn't change the fact that Among Us can be played on the MacBook with M1. If you have one, you can try it out. It works.

Ka

Then it may work for this app. I only looked it up online and there's nothing there about an M1 adjustment, or it is only displayed in the iPhone / iPad category.

In general, however, the comment that you can suddenly use every iOS app on the M1 Mac is simply incorrect.

Ju

I only wrote that the chip enables the use of iOS apps.
Did I write that they are all available? No. Do you just interpret purely.

Bu

Yes, if it's worth the money to you or if your parents pay. The part is cool, but grossly overpriced.

Li

The 256gb is enough for you in any case, provided that you actually only use it for school.

Over time, however, you will also accumulate data in the form of pictures, videos, music, which you should transfer to a cloud if possible in order to have the local storage space free.

The advantage of the cloud connection is that, thanks to the cloud, you can access it from many of your devices without having to constantly and complicatedly swap the data between the devices.
