Netflix notch problem on One Plus 6?

Since around December I have had the problem that when I stream on Netflix, it does not hide the notch. So before that I could choose between "enlarged with notch" or "normal picture" (as you used to know before the notch).

The problem is, I have to go into the settings every time to turn the notch off. There are apps that regulate this automatically, but Netflix prohibits this transmission.

Aside from the fact that it's time consuming, I just don't like it. The notch will then be ignored, but the image will simply not be cropped to fit at the edges. Before it was adjusted or reduced so as not to cut anything.

Does anyone have any idea how I can solve the problem?

I thought I'd install an older version of Netflix before this update (after all, I didn't have any problems then).

Strangely, this problem only occurs on Netflix and (Prime doesn't have this problem at all) especially in the new formats. Old films or series are automatically shown appropriately without a notch.

P.S. Some users even like it with a notch, but I just find it annoying, it doesn't fit the picture at all.

The topic of optimization for notches…

If an app targets a certain API level where there's no notch, you can decide yourself via OxygenOS whether the notch area should be used. With Netflix it is no longer necessary.

When the notch began, Netflix didn't support it. The area was always hidden. The screen always ended below the notch for Netflix. This is how Android ensured the app's compatibility.

With a later update (probably December), Netflix has "optimized" the app for notches. Their decision is that the area is not used in normal mode. With "stretch to full screen" the notch area is then also used.

In some Netflix content, the 21: 9 film should be played as 16: 9. The black bars are firmly integrated into the film. The film does not adjust to the appropriate width, so that without pinch to zoom there are also bars on the left and right.

Netflix also likes to use the 18: 9 format with the new formats, which can also suffer from the integrated black bars.

Amazon Prime is still in an unoptimized status. The notch is not used at all.

It doesn't help to solve the problem, but to understand it. The meaning of "optimization" is different for each person.

Well if that's the case I don't understand what Netflix sees as "optimization". The new normal just went bad. For one thing, you don't even have the option of whether you want to watch with or without a notch.

My current version is February 21. I hope Netflix corrects this bug for the old notchs. - I think the new formats are well suited for the brand new cell phone models, where the camera is just a round circle.

It is definitely helpful to understand where the problem or "the optimization" comes from.

As already mentioned, the notch is not used by default during playback. The image is adapted to the display so that no content is cut off. Depending on the existing format, black bars may appear.

With pinch to zoom, the entire display is covered with the content. The notch area is also used. The content is cut off by notch and by "zooming".

The built-in black bars in the video files may make it look different.
