I saw the series "Bodyguard" on Netflix and wondered whether politicians in Germany are also protected that way.
So I mean with a protective vest under your shirt and checking your apartment etc.
Is that the same in Germany?
Always depends on the situation. Bodyguards also appear in evening dresses with heels and you would never suspect that the young lady is active in the field.
A normal MP has no personal protection unless he is somehow particularly endangered.
At the federal level there's a security group at the BKA, which ensures the personal protection of the highest federal organs and, if necessary, their members.
At least at public appearances, bodyguards are always there. People travel relatively freely within a protected environment.
