Why do the translations differ so often from the original?

I noticed that, for example, in interviews the English is of course translated appropriately, but it already deviates quite a bit. Also with subtitles in e.g. Netflix is often so that the sentence, even in the same language, is completely rewritten.

Why can't you just use the sentence spoken in the audio as subtitles?

The translation must fit in time. When translating simultaneously, the translator must quickly grasp and say the most important thing before the interviewee continues. With subtitles, the text must not be longer than the scene and the viewer must be able to read and see something from the film at the same time, so there can't be a lot of text on the screen.

The lip movements should fit as closely as possible with what is said. Even if you translate 100% correctly (which is not always possible), sentences can have different lengths. Therefore, the sentences have to be modified so that both the length and the translations fit. In addition, all translations must fit as a whole.

As you can see, it is unfortunately not always as easy as you first think ^^
