How did the DVD and Netflix versions of the time differ from Neon genesis evangelion?

The series is the original from 1995 and the DvDs are the reinterpretation. Partly parts 1 and 2 are different to the series and from part 3 it's a completely different story. Part 4 should finally appear next year after 9 years (but in Japan)
