Which series are suitable for learning English (Netflix)?

I'm looking for series that have a light English. If so, I would like to watch it without subtitles. The language should be easy to understand and simple sentences.

I think House of Cards, for example, would be very difficult now. Prince of Bel Air is rather easier, but unfortunately I've only seen that in German and don't want to look at it again.

This probably won't sound that exciting, but you'll get basic English on children's series. Everything else you would have to watch with subtitles, which is also nothing reprehensible.

Gi

Well, I can already speak English and I'm not a newcomer to the language. Much can be seen from the context.

Vi

I would say there are definitely entertaining children's series such as The Legend of Aang and The Legend of Korra.

I enjoy watching English subtitles and I recently started The Baker Street Gang. Otherwise there are certainly some series that are more for entertainment, where the episodes are only 20-25 minutes long. I'm sure you can think of a few. I mostly watch Amazon Prime, so I don't even know what's going on on Netflix.

fi

That's true.

Gi

Amazon Prime works too.

With subtitles I always run the risk of just reading below.

fi

Well, then try it out and you will already know what corresponds to your level.

Watch animated series. They speak very clearly there. And turn on the subtitles. Examples:

she-ra
kipo
avatar- Last Airbender
Legends of Korra
Voltron
Teen Titans go
young justice
Carmen Sandiego
Fearless
The hollow
We bare bears
Forever twelve
Kid cosmic
The prince of dragons
Hilda
Wakfu
Steven universe

Omg thanks 😅 you just gave me a list of a lot of good things to watch. But I already have a few like Steven Universe.

Gi

I actually want to do without subtitles because otherwise I just look there and no longer pay attention to what is happening. Even when German is spoken, I look when subtitles are only there 😂

Stick to American and possibly British productions. Australians could be difficult. Series, the plot of which is set in an affluent, educated middle class, are usually not so strongly dominated by slangs of the subcultures - and therefore easier to understand linguistically. So, for example, often series about law and lawyers, doctors and such.

Concrete tips, which I personally find simply terrific and great in terms of content, would be, for example, Lucifer, The Good Fight / The Good Wife, Desperate Housewives, Big Little Lies, 11.22.63 - The attack, The Handmaid's Tale or Little Fires Everywhere.

The "Gilmore Girls" and "The marvelous Mrs. Maisle" are also terrific and actually quite understandable - although the specialty here is that the authors of these two series write a lot of text per episode for their characters and thus the speaking speed is quite high is. So it could be something for the next level of increase.

By the way, I would even recommend that you turn on the subtitles! Yes, you will read along there. But that's exactly why I find it very useful to have the subtitles with you when you learn. In this way, you also learn the spelling of the words as you hear them, which is also very important, especially in the context of school and training.

Thanks for the tips.

I have concerns. Then I just read it downstairs and don't get anything else from what is happening. I also read Düren films or play the lyrics below even though they speak German… 😅

yes, I've been out of school a long time.
I would just like to be able to communicate better in English.
