If you like death note, code geass could be something for you. I think that especially the antagonists of both anime are pretty similar
Psycho-Pass might fit? There's Akira on Netflix, by the way. It's not a series, but the film was groundbreaking and brought anime to the west. Otherwise - on Crunchyoll there's the bride of the magician, but it's fantasy. The main character has such a lousy life that she sells herself in the hope that someone will find a use for her and is then bought by a magician who tells her to become his apprentice and bride. It's a bit like Beauty and the Beast in self-reflection
