I have a question about bandwidth and the consumption of 4k videos and streams.
So
My brother claims he is watching 4k streams (Netflix) on a 30Mbit / s line (max. Download 5MB).
I claim that it can't be because I can't watch 4K YouTube videos on an 80MBit / s line (max. Download 12-17MB) without being constantly lying down.
I read on the internet that a 4K stream needs 25MB bandwidth, but doesn't that mean the download rate? Can a stream use the full 30MBit (80MBit)?
So is there a difference between consuming 4K streams and 4K videos?
A 30MBit line is sufficient for 4K Netflix.
You usually need around 20-25MBit for 4K streams, depending on the platform.
So do I really have to use the MegaBIT for a stream and not the MegaBYTE download?
Netflix needs 25 megabits per second for 4K streams.
Thank you
15-50 Mbit / s is sufficient for UHD (or 4096 * 2160p) in most cases.
There are exceptions, but even with those 75 Mbit / s should often be enough.
I can't say how it is with Netflix, but even YouTube with a good LTE800 connection runs in UHD.
For 4k you need 15-25 mbit (1.8-3.1mb / s download)
1mb are 8mbit for understanding.
You may have stressed many channels on your line or strong fluctuations for other reasons. You can carry out a relatively accurate measurement with Speedtest.net with a LAN connection. In my opinion, the measurements from the provider are often inaccurate.
