Did Cassandra Clare invent the runes and do you see pictures of the runes and characters in the books?

I watched the series Shadowhunters on Netflix, I found it very exciting and yesterday I ordered the first book. My question is whether you can see pictures of the characters and pictures of the runes in the books?

Not in the books because they are novels, and in most cases novels do not include pictures or photos.

But there's the "Extra Book" called: A History of Notable Shadowhunters & Denizens of Downworld: Told in the Language of Flowers. Unfortunately, this is only available in English. The illustrations are from Cassandra Jean. Each person from the three series "Chonic of the Underworld", "Chronicles of the Shadow Hunters" and "Chronicles of the Dark Powers" gets one page. On this page there's always a picture and a small text about the life and character of the person.

Otherwise you can find many pictures on the Internet (especially those painted by Cassandra Jean), e.g. The tarot cards.

About the runes: No, Cassie did NOT invent runes. Runes are very old. She just transformed and used it a little for her own made-up story. The runes of the shadow hunters are sometimes depicted on Cassandra Jeans pictures (see e.g. Clary's leg above); Most of the shadow hunters runes can be found either on the Internet or in the "Extra Book": The shadow hunters codex, e.g.:
