Upgrading to a smart TV?

I have a normal TV that I use to play with my console. However, since I wanted to watch Netflix in the future without my console running all the time, I wanted to ask if there's an alternative that can be connected to the TV without directly buying a new one that supports it.

There's a lot. I just use an Amazon fire tv stick.
