Older Macbooks still good for Office and Netflix?

How do Macbooks hold up over the years, do new operating systems run smoothly? I know it's very generalized.

My laptop is broken and I would get a Macbook, but have no idea what it is or how old it is. Can you possibly see something from the photos?
