Your opinion on VPN?

Don't you think that a VPN is mainly used to watch films illegally on the Internet or something like that?

I'm also aware that you have access to the American Netflix and co. But I'm of the opinion that this security is only used for illegal things in the network.

I use VPN to access the ZDF media library abroad.
My company uses VPN so I can work from home.

WTF?! That would be completely meaningless, if not to say paranoid at most…

Especially since the connection itself can only be seen by outsiders (such as the crazy network administrator). In terms of all the tracking stuff, etc. It is completely irrelevant whether the connection is via VPN, VDSL or VXX.

Surely there are some people who use this purpose-oriented use of VPN (all this rubbish such as "NordVPN" and what they are all called…).

But there are also a hell of a lot of people who still use VPN in the same way and for the same purpose it was originally created for.

What's private about it? Do you actually know what VPN is? There's no private VPN. It's always private.
