What do streaming providers have from blocking VPN servers?

I often come across country blocks when trying to stream a film. You will then get a message similar to this "This offer is not available in your country". Even using a VPN provider is not always useful because streaming providers are increasingly blocking VPN servers.

Even the German public broadcasters do that, as I found out about the World Handball Championship.

What I'm asking myself: What does a provider like Netflix get from blacklisting a VPN server? What do they get from the fact that they can't see the film for me, which costs nothing extra, in other European countries, but only in Germany, and never via VPN?

Maybe there's someone here to help me understand this.

Do you understand that different countries have different laws and guidelines? Netflix must therefore be individual in the offer in the individual countries and block certain things because they simply can't show them.

Different countries have different laws, so netflix is obliged to block them. I don't know to what extent netflix can be obliged to act against VPN providers because of this. Another role is likely to play, however, that some contracts with producers are not valid for all countries. They will put quite a bit of pressure when they find that their films are still viewed worldwide via VPN.

Sure, there are copyright and other legal issues. But by blocking VPN servers they do it actively. Nobody requests that.

Blocking VPN servers is voluntary, otherwise Maxdome and Amazon would (also have to) do so. But they don't. So I wonder why they're doing this.

That is clearly required. It is clearly stated that Netflix can't make the film and the film available in that country. That includes VPNs.

Do you have a free VPN? It never happened to me, maybe because I have a paid VPN service. It works great for me because PureVPN can easily handle geoblocking!
