How does buying digital films work?

I like to use Netflix to stream films, but if I spend money on a particular film, it is on the DVD. Now I want to see a film that is not available on DVD or on Netflix, but can be bought from amazon Prime. But nowhere do I find out how it works. So can I download it as a file or just stream it through Amazon? What if I have no internet right now when I want to watch the film I have already bought?

I'm supposed to be a "digital native", but the concept of buying a streaming product without actually owning it confuses me 😅

Edit: Does anyone know if iTunes is the same as Amazon? So that you can't download it.

It is no different from the streaming offer, only that the purchased title does not disappear (with exceptions *). You can always stream it. Download on mobile devices via the app like any other title. Possibly. Also on Windows 10 via the app (works with Netflix, I haven't tried Prime yet), if there's one from Prime (see none in the Microsoft Store right now).

It is not like a purchased MP3 that you can download and do whatever you want with it.

* The title is always available to you until the rights holder decides otherwise. It is therefore not like a DVD that nobody can take away from you. Digital titles that are only available online can be taken away again, Amazon excludes liability.
Something has happened to eBooks, I've heard. I haven't heard that with videos yet.
But is still in the terms and conditions / terms of use.

That keeps me from switching to digital purchases. I only buy something now and then for max 4 euro.

If you want to test that. Here are two films that cost 99 cents (purchase): https://www.amazon.de/...B01N4SIPGE, https://www.amazon.de/...B07R85VB68

Try to record the screen.

That would actually be my motto. But it is a recording of the West End musical Les Miserables and you can only buy it digitally for 10 pounds (11.50 euro): /
