The EU member states have agreed that on Netflix 30% of the films and series in the library must now come from Europe. Everyone knows that 90% and more films and series come from abroad and mostly from the USA. The EU doesn't want that anymore and wants to set the range for Netflix users so that 30% of it should come from Europe.
I personally find the new regulation stupid. If the USA and other countries produce a huge number of films and series and most of them are very exciting, you do not have to remove such films from the range just because they have films made in Europe.
How do you see that
I don't watch Netflix, so I didn't even notice it. I can imagine it's stupid, but I'm not really affected by it🙃
I don't care whether films / series come from Europe or not. The main thing is that they are good.
Is of course the usual EU socialism / planned economy. Unheard of how a successful private company should be prodded here again, but nothing new either.
I think the regulation itself is actually good. It is a fallacy that the USA simply produces so many more films, but it is the films that are most popular here and fill the cinemas. Many European (and other) countries often have really good films on offer and I think everything that helps to get these films more attention is actually excellent for the time being.
That said, my problem is in a completely different place here: I find it absolutely wrong that the EU thinks it wants to interfere in the strategy of a private company. If this is important to them, they should open their own, state-run streaming service and implement their vision. (Disclaimer: I haven't heard of the regulation myself, the statement is based purely on the interpretation of your question.)

A short appendix to this - it is not said that they are removing and replacing films from the range. There's still the possibility to simply enlarge the range by European films, so that you get 30%.
Even if I'm not currently at Neftlix, it is a decision that I very much welcome in order to expand the range of films available and give the works a chance that would otherwise be overshadowed by the massively produced Hollywood productions.
I think it is a shame that Netflix did not regulate this long ago and that the state now has to intervene, because it shouldn't really be the task of the EU.
