Come together

I have big problems with listening comprehension. In a lot of American series because people talk too quickly there. I need something lighter / slower to start with, and of course it would be great if someone could recommend something on Netflix.

I also take to heart general tips for better listening comprehension ;-). Doesn't have to be free.

Tu

To improve listening comprehension, it helped me a lot to watch the English series / films with English subtitles.

Pr

I mostly watched series for children like something like nickel for bad or alexa and Katie…

It is best to use a German subtitle (for the beginning) because it is easy to remember as a result… If you were to use an English subtitle it would probably be counterproductive as the subtitle usually says something else than what is said

The problem with me is that at some point I no longer concentrate on the spoken word - just read the subtitle. At the moment I'm still doing the same thing, but I'm not really satisfied with my increase in performance. Maybe it just takes more time than I expect.

Nevertheless, thank you for your tip!

st

It has often helped me with listening comprehension if I first watched a series / film in German and later in English.

That made a difference, because I already knew what it was about and what people were talking about and the rest would then come up to you by itself

En

Hmmn, kids series are of course a nice idea.

En

Yes, I had already done that. Only sometimes do I know the context in a scene, but I hardly understand a word what they are saying there, because of their accent or their speed of speech. It probably requires a high rate of practice.

En

Hehe, after the Google pictures it looks very childish. Let's see if I can force it into my own. - I'm actually not really that target group.

st

You're welcome.

When I started looking at things in English, I hardly understood anything. Now I've looked at quite a lot (actually everything I've seen before in German) and understand it relatively well. It just takes a little practice.

Ok, that sounds great. That motivates me a lot.
