What happened to Kaneki's friend?

Good lunchtime or good evening, depending on when you read my question 😃 what actually happened to Kaneki's friend? This scene can be seen on Netflix at the end of season 2:

What happened to his friend in the end? Did Kaneki finish him up? I had read somewhere that he had eaten it.

As far as I remember (a little longer ago) he is still alive but I could be wrong

He comes back in season 3 and stays until the end. So it is not dead or has not been eaten.

This is the season that is not Canon.

The third season has been available for years. So don't complain.
