Why do viewers voluntarily watch German civil servants at work?

On the one hand, I suspect that the broadcasters were mandated by the state to strengthen trust in the "sympathetic" state power with crime fiction and doctor series.

On the other hand, crime series must be produced according to a fixed scheme: a dead person, a few random pieces of information in the investigation, three suspects, interrogations in which the suspect immediately confesses, location restored. A 45-minute episode is shot in 7 days, half of it in the studio.

Why are there so few German series that take place in "other" milieus? For example settings: "Orchestra / conductor", "Airport pilots / stewardess", "Architect / construction worker / construction speculator"

Probably because the series would then be twice or three times as expensive. Because you need really good authors, the current ones are probably worn out by years of nodding by the editors and producers.

Personally, I can no longer watch any German series of the ÖRF, because I see how savings are being made on every corner, then I prefer to spend my time on Netflix, Prime and MUBI.

How do you see it?

Crime stories are seen and since television stations are only profit-oriented at the end of the day, they bring what is certain to work. Supply simply follows demand.

You don't have to watch any, there are plenty of other programs

Perhaps real thrillers are all the grannies and grandpas who sit in front of the cigarette box in the evening and the ÖR channels just watch too nerve-wracking and the pump would no longer take part.

Who knows?! 🤷🏻♂️😜

Thrillers are the counterpart to the Herzkino films;

Here you can sit back and relax at the end of the day because you know exactly that something like this is unlikely to happen to you, and Pilcher & Co. As a feel-good film to switch off after a strenuous day…

It's just a shame that there seem to be significantly more thrillers running than other great films…

Personally, I find crime novels rather boring.
