Witcher series Understand?

Do you have to read The Witcher books or play the video games to understand the Netflix series?

In itself yes. At least if you want to understand the background. (Who is that and what does he want here?)

If you go in completely unprepared, you don't understand everything, and the series is not as good as it could be.

So I know neither the books nor the games and I actually understood the series almost without great problems. In some places it was actually a bit incomprehensible, but since I really liked the season, I plan to get the books on Friday anyway ^^
