What does set-top box mean in relation to Netflix?

With the recent streaming activities Netflix there are: web browsers, Android smartphones and set-top boxes and streaming sticks.
How does netflixen work with a set-top box? And how with a streaming stick? What are the differences? I already googled but somehow didn't get it.

Settop box means nothing more than "reciver" the term comes from the usa where it was common in the pre-flat era to put the reciver on the television.

settop box can mean a game console on which the app is running as well as a satreciver that controls it or e.g. An IP TV reciver like from the telekom etc.
