English language indistinct when broadcast?

When I watch programs on Netflix, I sometimes watch them in English, but sometimes they talk so indistinctly so quickly and indistinctly

If an English-speaking person who doesn't speak a lot of German listens to a German, he will find it unclear and too fast.

gr

Yes, but they don't really pronounce it as you usually call it

An

Dialect.

Ja

Of course he meant that in German films, the characters don't speak High German either, if you speak English really well you'll understand everything

I try to interact as much as possible english in my day. It never hurts xD and because I watch 24/7 netflix, I always switch the audio to English and subtitles to English, because I can read English better than if they speak it. On YouTube or insta I understand everyone who speaks English, but in films / series they always mumble in my opinion.

It may help you to use English subtitles

gr

Yes, they always mumble but not all but sometimes only

gr

So if you speak it yourself then you just don't really understand it

Not to mention that what exactly is your question now?

Even in German-language programs, sometimes indistinctly, quickly, too quietly or loudly, in dialect, with an accent, mumbling, etc.; just like everyday school and work life.

In order to improve your listening comprehension, only practice helps, practice, practice.

Of course, a stay in an English-speaking country (vacation, host family, student exchange, au pair, work and travel, etc.) would be best for this - if possible alone, otherwise you would be happy to send your companion ahead - but trips abroad are usually a time and financial problem.

At home, you can practice your listening skills with the school assignment trainers and exercise books that are offered for the respective textbook.

Otherwise, I recommend starting with your favorite films, which you already know by heart, on DVDs.

Use series / films for listening comprehension + the speech melody, not to learn vocabulary.

Other tips:

- listen to English radio (BBC on the Internet, with podcast download)

- Find an English language or conversation course (e.g. VHS), a theater group, a reading circle, etc.

- look for an English letter / email / chat friend or tandem partner

- Set up Skype and search for native English speakers as conversation partners
