Is it legal to record from Netflix?

I've heard quite a bit about the right to private copy when the source is legal. Does that also apply to Netflix regarding recording?

Gu

I'm sure, but I don't think that's legal… But I'm not sure…

So I'm sure it's illegal but if it's only for you, not much will happen: 3

A "private copy" is permitted if it is made from a template that is not obviously illegal and if no effective copy protection is circumvented.

Netflix is clearly not an illegal template, and certainly not an obviously illegal one. But isn't the content there copy-protected?

An

It could fail because you are not the owner of the copy of the film that you want to copy. Just as it would be with a purchased DVD. I would rather equate streaming services with film rental. You can look at or borrow anything as long as you pay the monthly (borrowing) fee for it.

ca

Yes. But you can save it anyway.

Bi

Without circumventing an effective copy protection?

ca

Simply made. Nope. I didn't have to deal with anything.

But it was also Netflix on the PC.

Bi

Then it's legal.

ca

I see the same way. I don't know what is wrong with your answer.

Thank you.

If I have now understood all of this correctly, one should legally be on the safe side with a recording of Netflix

At UrhG https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/.../__53.html you can be sure that Netflix does not use pirated copies and that they have acquired the rights to make their legal copies available. I can't know whether you are recording for private purposes or for business purposes!

Regarding UrhG https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/...__95a.html, I can only say that some CDs are protected from duplication by technical measures, and these can't be circumvented. Unfortunately, I do not know whether streaming services also use protection that can't be circumvented, and what type of circumvention is not permitted.
