I've seen lately that a lot of netflix or cinema movies (kissing booth or after passion, for example) are using ideas from Wattpad (So, that they're filming Wattpad's idea)
Now to my question:
Do the Wattpad authors of the story get the money to make their idea a film or do you automatically "lose" the rights to the story when you publish it and anyone can do what they want?
Rights do not "lose" in any case. The copyright always stays with the author. As for the use of these ideas - difficult box. Normally, the author would have to be involved if someone uses it anyway. If only the idea has to serve, it becomes extremely difficult to prove that this idea comes from someone else.
So in the https://www.wattpad.com/writers/ on the side is that even with the post on the page all rights remain with the author of the story and Wattpad is used only as a medium. In this case, the author must be rewarded in any case, if the story or elements of it as a basis for, for example, a film to be used, as this has copyright.
Yes, copyright is a difficult box. No wonder that copyright litigation can sometimes take years.
But at least Wattpad raises no legal claim, if one uses the platform for publishing (at least not superficially, I have not bothered to read through their entire privacy policy and terms of use now). They would not be the first ones.
So I know that the author of After Passion has definitely got money for her story. Why should it be different she finally 'invented' that means she is the author.
funfact: after passion was once a 1D fanfiction has nothing to do with the question but no matter
