There are two films.
The older film from the 80s is very much based on the book and looks a bit "dusty" today.
Then there's a remake from 2008, which reproduces the book very freely. And what was new was that it played in Germany and not in America.
The Netflix series builds easily on the novel by Morton Rhue, but is different.
But there's a German film version from 2008 with Jürgen Vogel in the leading role and it is called like the novel "Die Welle"
