Does it really exist?

So I've been watching a lot of Asian (Chinese, Japanese and Korean) series on Netflix for quite a while and it happens more and more often that the parents of the adult characters have extreme control over them, such as Administration of the scholarship money of the university, or whether you can be in a relationship. I would take care of it myself at that age and wouldn't let my parents forbid me anything, but it doesn't matter. In any case, I would like to know whether this is only the case in these series or whether this control also exists in reality. Maybe someone is familiar with it, or is from Asia and can explain it to me

Yes, at least that's still very common in Korea. Especially when it comes to bringing youngsters under the age of 30 under the hood, many Korean mothers are extremely ambitious.

Is that the case in every family? Absolutely not, but it is much more common than ours.
