Do I have to pay Apple TV monthly?

Find this little thing for the television awesome, but what advantages does it offer over Netflix and Amazon and what can you do with it? Do I have to pay it monthly?

For the AppleTV itself you only pay the purchase price.

Everything else which apps and paid subscriptions you use depends on your wishes.
