I can see why the Gospel writers put that in, it was a great, fantastic story that could start a church and religion (Netflix writers wouldn't write it any other way).

I could imagine GOD as the "life energy". As the "energy" that allows plants to grow again after a forest fire, as the "energy" that allows people to rebuild everything and have children after a war, the "energy" that lets us get up again after failure.

Well, how can they! Especially since a billion of them do not know what they are talking about or what they believe in. Most of them have very vague ideas about their God, there are eternal arguments among them about which idea is the only "true" one.
