I'm 16 years old and have been afraid of the night and especially of sleeping for several months.
I'm afraid as soon as it gets dark and I know the others are going to sleep. I'm often awake at night, trying to distract myself with Netflix, music, learning ect. And before I go to sleep I'm extremely afraid because I think I will not wake up. Can someone tell me what to do to make it less bad?
Netflix & Co. Is not helpful for you, generally not. You should calm down internally and your body too, but that won't work if you keep feeding your head with information.
You should have something with you that is familiar and gives you security, which can also be a teddy.
In the worst case, you should no longer sleep alone for additional psychological security.
So that I understand you better and to be able to tell you more exactly, your fear is to die while sleeping?
Yes exactly
You suffer from sleep disorders, you have to make an appointment with a psychiatrist.
That you distract yourself with Netflix and co is also not good, be it for your eyes and your health.
If it calms you, most people die when awake, e.g. In Road traffic or if you are seriously ill. There are very, very few who were not sick or very old and simply fell asleep and died. I don't know how old you are, but let's say you're 14, you've fallen asleep about 5114 times and woken up healthy and alert.
You are more likely to stumble when you get out of bed and bend your neck at the edge of the bed than you will just struggle at night.
It would help you to deal with this topic. Because only the uncertainty causes fear. Can you explain biologically why you could die. Everyone can die at any time, I don't mean that. But at least from a medical point of view, you can take a look at your body and see if you have risk factors. You should go straight to the fear and work on it piece by piece
