Very embarrassing basket?

I did netflix and chill with my BFF when her ex wrote to me. He wrote

I quote:, what am I for you? Be honest, and then, find yourself pretty,

Then I said: uhh thanks? 😂,

Then he said: now say what I'm for you, and I said that he is a well-known person to me and maybe a little friends with me and he is like:, okay I feel completely different,

then I just said, good friends? And he said maybe more…

Then I gave him a basket and said I'm sorry but you know who I love, and then he waited and wrote briefly, uhh I don't love you,

Then he wrote to my BFF that he still loves her.

Did I just give the most embarrassing basket in the world or did he back out? That would be really embarrassing

Looks to me like he backed up.
