I will need internet at two different permanent residences in the future. At both residences probably for the following purposes:
Telephone conferences, internet research, downloads of small amounts of data, streaming (Netflix or similar)
The following options are available and I ask the price / performance question:
Option 1: DSL / fiber optics with routers at both locations will certainly be too expensive compared to the other options below.
Option 2: Homespot from O2 or Vodafone or other market players with an unlimited contract.
Option 3: Use an unlimited contract with an old mobile phone as a hotspot.
I reject option 1 for the above reason. That is simply more expensive in comparison. The following question arises: is Option 3 even able to do the things I need? I have my doubts, especially when it comes to conference calls / video conferences. Is there any experience or possibly even qualified (!) Specialists who can help me a little? Unfortunately, hotlines from various telecommunications providers only drive you crazy.
It fails because of Netflix. That won't work with a hotspot. Try it out. ^^ I would tend towards an LTE router (Gigacube with Flex tariff), but that too will probably fail because of Netflix.
TelKos and something like that go with LTE. ^^
The question I ask myself is, is the signal passed on by the cell phone enough for the TelKos / Vikos on the PC?
Sure that an LTE router / home spot has no chance with Netflix? It's actually not that bad to read on the Internet. The numbers / surfing speeds are "apparently" above my current DSL.
If the reports are good, you can give it a try. "Netflix" was never a requirement - maybe it works if you watch it in low quality. It just occurred to me that a well-known police officer on duty often watches Netflix on his tablet - so he should actually go.
Should you try that, you are welcome to report. ^^
What is expensive for you?
Well, I want to find the cheapest model for my problem. It will be expensive anyway.
The comparison lags a bit because the friend probably has the SIM card directly in the tablet and thus also has a direct network connection, right?
That's right, but the technology is the same: The Gigacube uses LTE just like the tablet with SIM.
Yes, but we're moving away from the actual question: Is a mobile WLAN generated by the cell phone enough for the above requirements or do I absolutely need the home spot.
