Why are the Netflix episodes of TWD shorter than usual?

The first episode actually lasts about 1 hour, but on netflix only 45 minutes.

Because there are no commercial breaks.

There's no advertising on the website where I watch the series.

Is there a 60 minute episode?

Where are you watching the 1 hour version and what is missing compared to the episode on Netflix?

Or are you confusing the pilot with that of "Fear The Walking Dead"? It actually takes a little over 1 hour.

Addendum: I just see that the running time on Amazon is actually 1 hour and 7 minutes. Strange.

There are two versions of the first episode. First a short version as long as it is in most episodes and a slightly longer version.

There are other episodes of which there's a longer version, but since the broadcasters mostly only want episodes with about 45 minutes, they are usually shortened and then later released on DVD / Bluray in the long version.

Of course, shortened versions may be published. Depends on the contracts. But we consumers do not experience that.
