Do you need a VPN?

I wanted to ask the community a question. Does the "normal" citizen really need VPN and if so, for what? I see these INCREDIBLE offers from VPN providers everywhere and wonder if we really need them in Germany. Sure if you live in China it is definitely necessary or if you want to watch Netflix series from other countries, but otherwise I don't really know why… Please convince me XD and if you have a good VPN provider let me know!

Apparently you don't need a VPN, so are you dying to turn this on yourself?

I can think of three reasons for a VPN right now

Bypass geoblocking
Download illegal stuff
Anonymity (the websites do not see that you are from city X in country Y)

With the second point, it is also possible to get someone's turn, because when the authorities knock on the VPN providers, they often give out the data.

Gu

There are also videos / apps etc. That are not available in Germany

Having a VPN app aside doesn't hurt, but I don't have a subscription either

A VPN only prevents your real location from being obscured. This will then allow you to access internet content from different countries that are prohibited in your country. Or the American Netflix offer. Otherwise it doesn't help if you use the internet as normal. But if you still want to get a VPN, I can only recommend Nord-VPN.

I don't use a VPN myself, but I'm on my own main line anyway, so it doesn't make any sense to me anyway.

Ke

Well summarized, since I could have saved my answer xD

pi

Is NordVPN really that good, listen to various things on the Internet… What do you mean by having your own large line? I'm curious now

Using the gate browser is more secure than all the VPN offers on the Internet and is also free of charge.

pi

I've thought of that before. VPN providers probably have their advantages, but in principle the Tor Browser is similarly secure, isn't it?

I'm connected to the line of the KIT, so I have a 1 Gbit / s line with 1 ms and without it being recorded where I sit or who I'm, I'm always displayed via the KIT.

Other VPN providers aren't bad either, basically they don't do anything other than host a server that you then browse through, there's nothing you can do wrong.

Ke

But can recommend the answer from @ FortNut32

Ge

As I said, it is more secure than normal VPNs

A VPN can also be useful to bypass an IP ban if a router reboot does not work.

na

A VPN only prevents your real location from being obscured.

That and that third parties can't see the data traffic (except for ISPs and service providers).

na

However, the problem with Tor is often also performance problems and some sites lock Tor.

na

If the VPN service can't only be applied to the browser, then yes.

You can also get an IP ban on websites
