LG TV and Samsung Home Theater System?

I have an LG TV and a Samsung "home theater system". When I watch a DVD, the sound is also played from all speakers, but can I also watch normal television or watch Netflix?

Connect the TV and the system with an HDMI cable or audio cable. However, there must be an out port on the Hdmi TV otherwise it will only work via audio cable.
