Net Community,
I got interested in becoming a director.
I'm aware that most good films, including those on Netflix, are made in America. I would also like to move to america (of course only if i can speak fluent english and have a certain accent) and i would also like to study directing.
I wanted to ask whether someone might know whether the same issues are being dealt with in Germany and America, or that those in America have a different program because I think they also have different laws.
Could you maybe advise me how I could best start as a director (already in Germany).
I don't know for sure, but I can imagine that the basic technical knowledge is definitely about the same, but more specific topics may differ a little, but you can always learn something yourself 🤷🏼♂️
First of all: a nice intention, I think it's cool!
But: make yourself aware that this is an extremely difficult, expensive and unpredictable path. Nobody in the industry is waiting for new directors, there's already more than is needed, which means that only a fraction can really work in the position and earn money. As a foreigner in the USA the whole thing is of course much more difficult.
Depending on how old you are: make short films with friends, do internships on the film set as a runner, get information from German film schools to get an insight.
At the moment I'm 14 and I'm in the 9th grade (I'm doing the secondary school leaving certificate) and I also plan to study directing. I really like the internship and thank you for helping me so far!
