What can go wrong here?
It may be that your wireless router has an activated MAC filter (also called "Allow WLAN access only known devices"). So make this wireless security option temporarily in the router (call configuration page of the router). And connect the Chromcast again with your Wi-Fi network. If it works, then yes, then enabled the MAC filter in the wireless router again.
And do not use the Wi-Fi guest access, because guest access does not allow network communication between the connected Wi-Fi devices.
Note that the 1st generation Chromecast can't support the WLAN ac standard (5 GHz), so the wireless router should offer the WLAN n standard (2.4 GHz).
