I thank you in advance and hope that someone can help me.
For a long time I have been using a PC that runs at full speed, especially in times of Corona. Over time, I've noticed that working with 20 different open programs can be quite tiring, so I decided to buy a second monitor.
My PC is not the best and only has one other port called DP. My question would be can I connect a display to my PC without buying another graphics card?
Unfortunately, my graphics card or processor is not the best because opening apps like Netflix caused the PC and screen to fail. Both could only be started again by restarting. Can this affect the use of the second screen?
Thank you for reading the question and I hope someone can answer it.
Ps: I'm not at all familiar with PCs and hope for an answer that I can understand without specialist knowledge.

DP stands for DisplayPort and that is just a connection like HDMI, but you just need a suitable DisplayPort cable. There are also DisplayPort to HDMI cables if the other display only had HDMI.
In itself, this is usually problem-free, although with laptops there's sometimes a limit to how many displays you can connect at the same time.
In such a case, however, there are USB devices to which you can then connect another screen, so I avoided the problem myself with a ThinkPad.

As long as the DP connection is on the graphics card, you can use it without hesitation.
However, if the connection is on the mainboard, you can't use it because the IGPU is deactivated as soon as a graphics card is installed.
Thanks, this is a great help.
At least 3 screens can easily be connected to modern graphics cards, even if the connection types are different
DP = display port
HDMI
DVI
VGA
have to mix it. So you can easily connect one screen to HDMI and the other to DP / DVI.
If you buy a new monitor you should make sure that it has at least one DP input in addition to HDMI. DP is the most modern connection and will also often be found on graphics cards in the future.
Nowadays, you can also connect at least two screens to on-board graphics solutions.
If there aren't 4k displays or something like that, the power of the graphics card is usually sufficient for a second screen.
I also have a cheap 2 gig card in my office computer, which only has a few watts (does not need an extra power connection) that can do that too.
you just need a screen with display port, which is already common practice with most, a corresponding adapter.

Things you sometimes forget to mention because they seem so obvious.
To be absolutely sure, you need to know which graphics card is installed. However, the vast majority of graphics cards support multiple monitors (usually two), which can simply be connected via the other port.
So I would just advise that it should work.
