Background downloads: poor Wi-Fi speed?

Do background downloads affect Wi-Fi speed or general laptop performance? I'm currently downloading Fortnite and League of Legends and since then my laptop is much slower to watch YouTube and Netflix. And will it maybe get better after the download is done?

Of course it gets better after that.

Downloads occupy part of your available bandwidth, which is why you have less left and your Internet is slower. As soon as your download is complete, you will have more bandwidth available and your internet will be faster again.
