How do I keep watching Darker Than Black?

First of all, thank you in advance.

I've now finished watching the first season (25 episodes) on Netflix and then the additional episode, which is just a bonus and takes place somewhere in the middle of the season. However, I don't know how to look further now, because somehow there's no real connection between the first and the second season. Now the question is whether I have to watch the OVAs to keep up with them, but actually OVAs have no relation to the storyline, they are just "side productions". Or not?
