Learn languages with Netflix?

Can you learn languages on Netflix, for example, by changing the language but having a subtitle so you can understand what that means

Is that possible?

Ex

I can recommend Jup. But you should still master the basics.

Ro

It can't do any harm and you will learn certain words again, but that alone will certainly not make you a language professional ;-)

St

No, because the translations are almost always done in the same way and are often adapted to the specific country.

Learning with subtitles is therefore not recommended.

Pi

I think that is possible, but you will definitely need some prior knowledge. Netflix is definitely a good way to improve your language skills, but not to learn a whole new language right from the start.

I have some basic knowledge

With subtitles alone, you may be able to learn a few words, but not grammar. It helps if you learn a language, but that alone won't teach you to speak.

Also, a lot of the subtitles don't match the soundtrack at all, so I'd be careful. Often there's only a corresponding translation, literal translations do not always make sense in another language. But what I've also often observed is that the subtitles say something completely different from what people say. I observed this, for example, at La Casa de Papel (House of Money) on Netflix, in Spanish with German subtitles. I believe that the German subtitles are intended for the deaf and do not translate Spanish but contain the text of the German synchro. But it is often very different from the original because the lip movements have to match. So I would be careful about that.
