Start playing volleyball at 17?

I'm W / 17 and have actually been interested in volleyball for a long time. However, I spent a few years in the low point of social skills and was never able to start something like that. Now I would theoretically like to take the step, but there are three things in my way. 1. Isn't that somehow weird to start at 17? I'm a little afraid that afterwards I'll be extremely worse than the rest haha. 2. I'm small. 1.60 to be exact. Is that a problem? 😅 And 3. I'm probably the most unsportsmanlike person on the planet. I have a lot of fun with it, but to be honest it is zero.

Do you think I could still do this, with a lot of practice, or am I just a hopeless case who should rather spend his time with Netflix? ^^

If you want to do that then just do it!

So after you've made yourself smaller and more insecure than you already are:

DO IT! BASTA!

If you don't believe in yourself, you won't achieve much. So take a more positive approach. If you do not succeed, everything is doomed to fail. However, this is not due to your age, your height or your lack of sportsmanship. That's because you don't really want to. Unfortunately. Does someone force you to take this step or does it come from you?

If you feel like doing sports with volleyball, you can start at any age. And since you don't want to be a model, your height doesn't matter if you master the strategies that this game brings. You can definitely make up for that. You just have to want it. You will have to do some sporting activities, otherwise the team will not really need you.

I've been playing volleyball all my life. Unfortunately I'm already 52 and therefore no longer the most agile and have my ailments here and there.

I participated in the Monday team for a good 12 months where they are on average 20-25 years younger. I could keep up quite well. But then I left it because it overwhelmed me too much and they just play too well.

Now I've been playing on Fridays with the senior team for over 15 years, the average age of which is 70. This is of course not to be compared with Mondays, because seniors play here who have never played volleyball in their youth and therefore it is difficult to play a game.

For you as a beginner, I can only advise you to go to a hobby team or to the club. You have to learn the basic skills, the British and digging, because this is a prerequisite so that you can even play. You can join a hobby team and train first and if you are lucky you can also play.

By the way: I've been playing volleyball continuously for EXACTLY 50 (!) Years; Pike excavators with over 70 are still a matter of course for me (also 22 years handball goalkeeper 100 years ago).

Not everyone is as sporty and fit as you are.

I'm 52 years old and already move like 70.

First: YES!

Second: I can't judge.

I know a woman who started playing volleyball when she was over 40. So age is not an obstacle.
1.60m is perhaps too small for a medium-sized attacker. As a player or outside attacker you should be able to cope with this size in the lower volleyball leagues. In the leisure area anyway.
Exercise, exercise, exercise.

You don't want to be a professional. You just want to play for fun. Volleyball is great!
