Sword Art online 2 series?

I started watching Netflix sword art online. But just now I realized that there are so to speak, "2 series", with exactly the same name, etc. The only difference I could see so far is the picture of what I'm watching Kirito and everyone else on it, on the Other "series" is only Kirito on it alone. Would that be something like two different squadrons or what?

Of course, the content of the two series is different, which means that there are still the same characters but there are different topics. Could someone here enlighten me what I should look first?

Netflix has the first two seasons of Sword Art Online.

Season 1 https://www.netflix.com/...e/70302573

Season 2 https://www.netflix.com/...e/80082107

Unfortunately, I do not know why the second season is listed separately.

Sword Art Online II is the sequel. This is followed by the film Ordinal Scale, which you will find on Wakanim. The third season of Alicization started in October last year. So far there are 24 episodes, but only with German subtitles also on Wakanim.

Alicization will be released on DVD starting this fall, but if this season and also the movie is coming to Netflix is not yet known.

So far, there are the following anime adaptations to Sword Art Online:

Sword Art Online (TV series, 25 episodes)
Sword Art Online -Extra Edition- (TV special, approx. 100 minutes)
Sword Art Online II (TV series, 24 episodes)
Sword Art Online-Ordinal Scale- (movie, about 120 minutes)
Sword Art Online -Alicization- (TV series, currently broadcast break)
Sword Art Online Alternative "Gun Gale Online" (TV series, 12 episodes, spin-off)

============

In »Sword Art Online -Extra Edition-« the events from the first season »Sword Art Online« are summarized.

The second season »Sword Art Online II« is a continuation of the first season »Sword Art Online«.

»Sword Art Online-Ordinal Scale« plays the second season »Sword Art Online II« and the third season »Sword Art Online -Alicization-«

"Sword Art Online -Alicization" is a sequel to "Sword Art Online II" and "Sword Art Online Ordinal Scale". So far, the first 24 episodes of "Sword Art Online -Alicization" have been released, which form the first half of the third season. Now there's a break until the second half of "Sword Art Online -Alicization- War of Underworld" begins in October.

In this series, the characters of each season still appear in the next season, and the plot builds on the action of the previous season. But not everything takes place in the same virtual game world, so there are also different "topics":

Sword Art Online (in the first half of "Sword Art Online")
ALfheim Online (in the second half of "Sword Art Online")
Gun Gale Online (in the first half of "Sword Art Online II")
New ALfheim Online (in the second half of "Sword Art Online II")
Ordinal Scale (in "Sword Art Online Ordinal Scale", unlike the other worlds is not a VR game world but an AR game world)
Underworld (in "Sword Art Online -Alicization", unlike the other worlds, is not a "gaming world")

============

The spin off "Sword Art Online Alternative" Gun Gale Online "" plays like the first half of "Sword Art Online II" in the game world "Gun Gale Online", but independent of "Sword Art Online II" with a different plot and other characters. The light novel on which the spin-off was based was also written by another author (Keiichi Sigsawa), not by Reki Kawahara. Reki Kawahara, who wrote and writes the actual "Sword Art Online" light novels, is just some kind of supervisor for the spin-off.

============

On Netflix I find two series about Sword Art Online. On the one hand the first season »Sword Art Online« …

https://www.netflix.com/...e/70302573

And on the other hand the second season »Sword Art Online II« …

https://www.netflix.com/...e/80082107

Are these the two series that you meant? Then you should be able to guess without any background that "Sword Art Online II" is probably a sequel to "Sword Art Online" because of the "II" in the title.

But I do not know much about Netflix because I do not see anything myself and therefore find it hard to find a series there. Maybe I overlooked what you meant.

"Just now I noticed that there are" 2 series ", so to speak, with exactly the same name"

One is called Sword Art Online, the other is called Sword Art Online II… After 1 comes 2.
