I'm / 14 would like to play in a Netflix film / series. I've already heard that the castings are not public, but are awarded by agencies. Can you recommend me agencies that could get such castings? And let's say I really did it. Most films / series are shot in the USA, do they actually take me because I'm not from America? Or does that matter to me as long as I pay for the flight and what else? And do I also need a visa or something else as a minor? Maybe I should ask the question at the very beginning - are they even looking for actors from Germany for American films?

Of course you don't have to answer all questions, but it would be nice if you would help me a little. And if you just want to take my hope, please don't write at all.

Please don't get it wrong, just take it as advice, but it's all up to you.

I think it's great that you want to be an actor, but nowadays it is really difficult to achieve anything at 14 (I don't want to say that you can't do it), but I recommend that you finish your school, so your education to complete, you would have already secured yourself if acting was no longer running or was no longer in the mood for it. Then you could further consider whether acting is something for you.

A downside to this is that your parents have to agree and sign forms.

And I think normal parents would think it would be better if you just go to work normally.

Only a few ideas about the castings should be here… The best thing to do is google for a few days and dig through until you find something. Such a dream is hard, but you can make it happen! But you need a lot of luck and good knowledge of English. Well good luck anyway!

Thank you 😁

The casting for Avatar's live action series - Lord of the Elements will be a public casting, is in the USA. You can try your luck there.

Thanks for the information

The following applies to the USA:

Especially if you have this wish, you have to have an extremely successful career in Germany / Europe as an actor. Otherwise you have no chance of getting one of the visas required for this. Only with, for example, the O visa can you legally participate in castings and act legally in the USA.

Here is an extract from the requirements in German:

USA work visa O.

"The category O visa is valid for the following purposes: O-1 is intended for people with exceptional skills in the fields of science, art, education, business or sports, or for people with outstanding performance in the film industry."

If you win a green card or get it through marriage, your career may also be less exceptional, but even then, as a "non-native speaker", you are reduced to a few roles.

Also keep in mind that there's an army of job-seeking actors in the US with a work permit and no language barrier. Every waiter in LA feels like he's waiting to be discovered as a movie star.

How do I exactly become an actor?

by becoming one in Germany through study. You can also study in the USA, for which you need a lot of money that you can't earn on the side.

Are they even looking for actors from Germany for American films?

Yes, yes. Christoph Waltz, two-time Oscar winner, is Austrian, meaning German in terms of language. Arnie Schwarzenegger too. However, Waltz is a brilliant actor and, since he lives in London, he speaks perfect English almost accentuated. At least I think so.

Otherwise, no, 99% of the German actors who try it in Hollywood fail. Til Schweiger had also tried, but was only allowed to play a tiny role alongside Bruce Willis.
The United States is a big country and they have enough local actors, most of whom also hang out somewhere as waiters.

As a German teenager, you won't have a chance. Not only because of the accent, but also because of the protection of minors.

Better try it with German series. I don't know how to get casting companies.

I know the young actor Julius Weckauf personally - "The boy has to be out in the fresh air". But it was only discovered by accident. He or his parents did not even know that they were looking for a boy of about nine years old who not only had a lot of talent, but was also similar to the young Hape Kerkeling and was able to learn to ride fast for the film. An aunt of his told about the casting. He felt like it and went with his parents. He was the only one left out of 300 applicants.
